UWESO TRAINED US ON BALANCED DIET

Mzee Baganda is one of the model farmers trained in crop production and kitchen gardens. He was trained in modern farming practice.

Mzee Baganda of Kanoni sub county in Kiruhura district shows off some of his harvests from crop production and Kitchen gardens

For me i don’t even know what to tell UWESO for the training they provided to us. Before they came in to train us, we did not even imagine that such good harvest could come out of our poor soil, because we always thoughts that such good harvests only come from well looked after soils that are fertilised with imported chemicals. UWESO taught us that we have the manure with us and that the soil is perfect for gardens.

Because i was trained on these kitchen gardens, now my family can have a balanced diet because i have all types of food on my piece of land. I now don’t have to buy food like i used to do before the training, although most of the harvest is sold, i make sure i leave some for my family and at the same time make money from it.

I was trained and provided with seeds and this encouraged me to cultivate my piece of land that i had abandoned for years because i was not yielding anything and had resorted to just surviving for a day. When UWESO came in i started enjoying life and love for that land that i had abandoned for years. I was given all types of vegetable seeds, and all foods to plant. UWESO trained us on how to have good harvests even when you are not using artificial fertilisers which are expensive but rather use the natural manure from what is around us.

When i put the knowledge i acquired into practice i realised great harvest which i started selling to be able to provide for my family basic needs that they used to luck.

The first time i tried out what i was trained by UWESO, the harvest was too much that i was overwhelmed and since then “i have the cash and food at all times”. narrates mzee Baganda.

(UWESO) is a national NGO founded in 1986 by the Hon. Mrs. Janet Museveni to respond to the needs of children orphaned by the civil strife and the AIDS pandemic. However over the years, UWESO evolved into a broad based child rights organization, addressing the needs of OVC nationally through identifying interventions that are strategic to the alleviation of their plight. -----------------------------------------
